Lucia found whole new worlds to photograph at the Talalla Retreat, and she wishes to share that experience with fellow travelers wanting an adventure whilst honing their photography skills. Lucia Griggi’s Talalla Retreat Photography Expeditions will take place on the edge of the jungle and the sea, in southern Sri Lanka, for nine nights and ten days: “It will take that long to explore this area, and photograph all there is to see and do,” Lucia said. “The beaches are lovely and we’ll be photographing the surf in and out of the water. There are Buddhist temples in the area and we will enter to photograph the rituals and mysteries inside. Matara and the other local villages are untouched by tourism and close to pristine in representing how the people of this island live.”
Talalla Retreat guests are accommodated in tropical villas – comfortable, safe and open to the sounds, sights, smells and emotions that flow between jungle and sea. There is no need for air conditioning, as sea breezes and ceiling fans are cooling. There are no televisions or electronic entertainment to distract from the wonders of this magical part of southern Sri Lanka. But there is a beautiful swimming pool for rinsing away the salt of the sea and the sweat of the jungle. There is a yoga studio for stretching tired muscles. A spa for massage, beauty and therapy. A gourmet restaurant provides a healthy western/Sri Lankan fusion of organically-grown fruits and vegetables, freshly-caught fish and local herbs and spices.
These courses are designed for students at any level, who want to take their photography to the next. The classes are for aspiring photographers with a passion for documenting surf, the ocean, waves, travel and action sports.
Students must bring:
It is expected that you know how to download images from your camera to the laptop, know basic editing techniques using your software, and are able to organize the edited images for critique.
