Rippling across the equator for nearly 5000km, Indonesia encompasses more than 17,000 islands.
A surfing holiday in Portugal is a great break for all levels of surfers, from professional surfers looking to find those endless point breaks, to the total new surfer looking at hitting the surf for the first time in fun, warm surf off the Portuguese coastline.
Hidden along the cobbled lanes of the historical town of Lagos lies the surf camp. From here, their team of devoted surf guides and off-road vehicles will take you off the beaten track to surf some of south Portugal’s best surf breaks. The beaches around Lagos are some of the most beautiful in the Algarve region, like Praia de Dona Ana, which can be reached after a 25 minutes walk from the center of the town, Praia do Camilo, a little further on, and Meia Praia, whose sands stretch for 4 km (2.5 miles) east of Lagos. All this great weather, surf and history are a short flight away from Northern Europe, making this the number one surf destination for any surfer, at any level.
The surf styled townhouse is located in the heart of old town Lagos. The surf lodge is a short walk to the local bars, restaurants and cafes. A big roof terrace overlooks the town and surrounding beaches. The surf lodge has a fully equipped kitchen and living room. The living room has a library of surf DVD’s, a play station and stereo. The whole house has wireless internet and is lovingly looked after by our two maids. The rooms are simple in design and well looked after.
They provide breakfast each morning, and take a packed lunch out when you go surfing. Typically they will throw a BBQ or all head into town for something to eat in the evenings.
The Algarve is one of Europe's best Surfing locations as you have the option of surfing both the West and South Coast depending on the swell direction. You'll have every wave imaginable on the epic stretch of coastline from mellow beach breaks for your first wave to thumping reefs to get spat out the barrel!
There is in fact 2 types of waves at Arrifana. When the banks are good it can produce a very fun and punchy beach break on the middle and southerly part of the beach. Which is great for beginners, however this beach is famous for it’s long right point break. It can work up to 15ft and the take off isn’t for the fair hearted as if you get it wrong it’s right in front of a huge rock. Having said that if you survive the take off then it powers you down for a 100m or so into a reforming beach break.
This is a long exposed beach with two main surfing areas. The southern end of the beach has a sort-of point break off the rocks but very dependent on the sand bars. The second area is about 200m up the beach with A-frame peaks on good days breaking on the sand bars.
This beach is home to some really fun peaks that run down the beach. On its day it can produce world-class hollow waves and also some great running waves if you’re after a fun session with friends. Beware this beach can get very busy and the car park fills up quick so a dawny cold be on the cards for this spot.
This is worth the trek if the swell direction is right as is can produce a world class left running all the way through to the beach break. The point can pretty weak but fun on a longboard around the 3-4ft range but anything above 5ft and its fun long running left.
Tonel can produce hollow waves but can be fickle with the wind. It has both right and lefts but can get very busy in the summer months with body boarders. Don’t let this put you off though as if people have all flocked to the west coast on a big swell this will be producing some smaller and cleaner little beauties!
This beach break can produce really peaks right on the center of the Beach along with a great point break that works a few times throughout the winter. You will also get the predominant wind blowing from the North in the winter and the southerly swells pushing through.
Due to its relatively protected position, Zavial needs sizeable swell to really make this spot come alive. At low tide a wave breaks alongside the cliffs on the far west side of the beach. With steep take offs, on a good swell this is more aimed at the intermediate/advanced Surfer especially in the winter. During the summer strong thermal winds usually blow offshore in the evening providing fun rippable waves.

The accomodation was basic (as i'd expected) but was clean and well maintained and the roof terrace was great, the location is also fab. All the staff were really friendly and i instantly felt comfortable and included (really important as i went alone). The surf instruction was good and though i didn't pick it up easily, the instructors kept giving me new tips and persevered with me! The breakfast's and picnic lunch on the beach provided were great and there was an organised BBQ and traditional fish restaurant visit which were both really good too. I have been recommending surf holidays and errant surf to everyone willing to listen since i got back and will definately be booking another surf holiday soon.Nicola -
The surf lodge was very clean and tidy, everything we were expecting. The surf coaching was first class and full of good local knowledge.Michael -
Hi guys the accomodation at lagos was great, plenty of space and well equipt with everything you would need. The surf coaching was brilliant i learnt so much during my stay so a big thanks to Jez and bra at lagos. Food and drink was good it was nice to eat out with the group in the evening and the customer service at both ends was second to none. it was a great trip!Sam Smith -
The surf camp accommodation was excellent. Comfy beds, good showers and a kick ass roof terrace. All the coaches were great. But big thanks to Matt in particular who was professional but also really enthusiastic about us getting out there and enjoying surfing. Lunches were awesome. Just the variation in potato salad was enough. Plenty of email communication from the guys at errant and Toby runs a pretty good operation in Portugal. Basically we had a ball. Great combination of adventure and beach holiday. Would do again if I wasn't out of holidays.Matt Carlisle -

A really great holiday; Accommodation - clean and well kept. Good facilities i.e TV, internet wi-fi. Upstairs both/shower could do with an update but otherwise good. Surf coaching - Amazing. Both instructors Jez & Bra were fantastic teachers. Great local knowledge and such enthuaism to share what they know. Food/drink - Good range for breakfast. Great lunches at the beach and the surf guys made sure we knew where to get good value local food for evening meals. Drink, loving the Vino Verde! Customer service: UK good. Lagos Surf Camp - the guys were fantastic. Cheers, MichelleMichelle -
It was a fun week with lots of surfing and catered for beginners like me. Accommodation was very relaxed and comfortable. Well maintained and cleaned daily. The food was incredible - both lunch and some dinners which were organised. Surf lessons were good. Small groups meant that everyone could be taught to their ability. I have recommended it already to a friend who is going out in the summer with her sister. I hugely enjoyed my surf trip to Lagos. From booking, to learning to surf and enjoying the beach picnic lunches, it was a fun filled week!Victoria Scott -
Lagos is an amazing resort with so many great restaurants and bars, the surf experience team are all legends and made our stay loads of fun! We stayed at the Pensao and it was lovely and very clean. The Algarve has a great climate and the people are so friendly and welcoming. Sick trip! Very good value, we are already planning our next surf trip with surf errant :)James -
Lagos surf house is a well run bunk house / surf school, friendly helpful staff on or off duty. You can have as much fun at night as during the surf. I would recommend this holiday and there were many return guests, of which I will be. Get yourself to Lagos to surf house and drink the green wine.Owen -
Just want to say thanks for setting up the surf holiday, the Lagos Surf House was bloody brilliant and I am really glad I went with them in the end, so much so I ended up extending my holiday for a few days! Accommodation was basic but clean, however the house had a really warm atmosphere, pretty much everyone there was like me a solo traveler so we all got on really well, the food provided was fantastic! The surf instructors were really friendly and pretty good at getting you surfing, overall a mega experience and would recommend to anyone!!Joanna -

Had a brilliant time. Weather was great and met some amazing people from various countries. Everyone including staff very friendly and approachable. Very relaxed atmosphere in hostel and nightlife decent with plenty of good places to eat.1 week wasn't long enough!Mark -
This Trip exceeded my expectations on every level! All aspects of the surf experience were fantastic, from the locations and lesson structure to the lunches and teachers. However there were so many other added bonuses that made the holiday including the evening dinner recommendations, fellow holiday makers and general atmosphere. I could not recommend it highly enough.Barnaby -
