Orkney Self Catering Surf Lodge

Introduction to Orkney Self Catering Surf Lodge

Come stay at our traditional self-catering surf house. Ideally located close to Kirkwall, yet a short drive from the wild west coast surf, and the perfect north coast waves. The house is perfect for families or a group of friends interested in exploring the the sea, land, lochs, hills, and beaches. Surfing among other waterwports are popular here, yet due to the amount of islands and vast coastline, it is still very much an exploration holiday.

The house has three double rooms, one en-suite with whirlpool bath, attic twin bedroom, traditional kitchen with black slate floors. The large lounge has an open fire place, with a multi fuel burner. The house has stunning views from the sun room over Scapa Flow, and ample parking.

Nature lovers are drawn to Orkney because of the abundance of birds and marine wildlife that inhabit the islands throughout the year. Wildlife is everywhere in Orkney, oystercatcher wading in the wetland meadows, short-eared owls staring at passers-by from the roadside fence-posts, grey and common seals basking on the rocky skerries, while whales, dolphins and porpoises can be spotted in coastal waters in summer, and hundreds of thousands of breeding seabirds can be seen congregating on vertical cliffs.

Food and Drink

This is a self-catering option in Orkney. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need.

Surfing at Orkney Self Catering Surf Lodge

The main breaks in Orkney can be found on the west coast in the Bay of Skail, and Marwick. But talk to any surfer, and they will know that there are litrally hundreds of different surf spots everywhere. We suggest hiring a car, or taking one up with you. You will need a 3mm summer suit during the summer months, with wetsuit boots from October - November. During the winter months, the cold does set in and we suggest taking a 6mm wetsuit with hood. Ideally the best time to visit is from Easter to December. Don't forget during the summer months it hardly gets dark!
