Surf camp Sri Lanka is the result of over ten years of experience working in and running surf camps in Europe. Established in 2004 we have developed a solid relationship with the local people of Sri Lanka. Founder and Errant surf guide, Matt Shears has over 12 years professional surf coaching experience holding qualifications from the BSA, NaRs(BL) and the FPS (surf federation of Portugal). We offer an unforgettable surf vacation for both beginners or more experienced surfers, looking to discover a beautiful country and surf good uncrowded warm water waves in the deep south of Sri Lanka.
In ancient times, Sri Lanka was known by a variety of names: ancient Greek geographers called it Taprobane and Arabs referred to it as Serendib (the origin of the word "serendipity"). Ceilão was the name given to Sri Lanka by the Portuguese when they arrived on the island in 1505, which was translated into English as Ceylon. After the English gave up their occupation of the island in 1948 it became knows as it is today.
This magical mysterious island is often sited as one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Famed for its fine tea its gold silver and gem stones its colorful landscapes and its many reef protected beaches. The south of Sri Lanka tends to be forgotten at the expense of the more well-known and popular surfing destinations of the east coast. But the road to the deep south plunges you into a region rich in history, culture and often empty waves!
Over the last 5 years we have been going to a small village, Ahangama about 125km south of Colombo. For three months we stay at a local guesthouse, the venue for surf camp Sri Lanka and invite you to come and sample the many wonders this awesome country has to offer.
We currently go from the middle of November through until the middle of January, we hope in the future to offer longer so keep your eyes open. We take very small groups, max 10 people. We cater for a range of abilities from beginners and experienced surfers.
Your accommodation couldn’t be any closer to the beach apart from actually being on the beach! Drift off to sleep with the sound of the waves breaking on the shore then wake up for a surf check, looking out the window. From there, decide if you want to go for a sun rise surf before breakfast or wait and catch a sunset session.
Trips to Yale national park, Buddhist temples, riverboat safaris and many more can be organized through the camp.
This camp is only open between the dates of 15th of November til mid Janauary.
