Introduction to Martinhal Beach Resort

Carefully positioned within the grounds of Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel, this luxury beachfront hotel – the first five-star property in the Sagres region – sits comfortably between the land and the surf, with a protected natural park as its neighbour. The architecture combines a natural simplicity with contemporary style to create a building that appears organic, as if born to Nature. The 38 rooms, including two duplex Beach Suites, all have private balconies or terraces that afford impressive ocean views.

The hotel’s O Terraço restaurant serves a full buffet breakfast and offers a tempting dinner menu based on Portuguese and seasonal produce, prepared with a modern flourish. Hotel guests have full access to all the other resort facilities. Children and babies are completely welcome at Hotel Martinhal and at O Terraço restaurant as well.

Terrace Rooms

Terrace Rooms at Hotel Martinhal are situated within the main building and surrounded by private gardens. The architecture draws on the austere beauty of the unspoiled western Algarve, a design signature that’s effortlessly carried through to the living spaces. The use by British furniture and interiors designer Michael Sodeau of natural materials like timber, cork and wicker to furnish the rooms lend the accommodation a minimalist, organic quality that is as appealing as it is innovative. Likewise, the muted pastel tones used to decorate the interior create a wonderfully mellow atmosphere that is easy on the mind, and on the soul. Each en-suite room has its own private wood deck terrace and an area of lawn where guests can lounge and soak in the sun and memorable sea views.

Beach Rooms

Hotel Martinhal Beach Rooms are arranged in clusters of four near the beach and are just a short walk from the main building. Positioned to take full advantage of an outstanding coastal panorama, these rooms are flat roofed and wrapped entirely in natural timber to blend effortlessly into the landscape. Inside, the colour palette is deliberately subdued and living spaces fashionably understated: the mood is cool and refined. Natural wood, stone, cork and other locally sourced materials have been employed by British furniture and interiors designer Michael Sodeau to decorate the interior. The impression is one of function and continuity. Rooms open on to private balconies or terraces where glorious ocean views and sunsets can be fully appreciated.

The Beach Suites

The Beach Suites at Hotel Martinhal number just two and are visually stunning in their appearance. Clad in natural timber and positioned overlooking the ocean, the Suites incorporate loft-style double height living spaces, with the open-plan bedroom situated on the mezzanine level. Outside, a private veranda has been carefully orientated to take advantage of the setting sun. Floorspace is deceptively generous, and the enormous floor-to-ceiling bay windows greatly enhance the sense of proportion. A private ground floor terrace extends on to a modest lawn. A soft pastel colour scheme complements the eco-friendly materials and fibres that British furniture and interiors designer Michael Sodeau has used to furnish the rooms, and the mood is one of refinement and understated luxury. Uniquely, Beach Suites interconnect with the adjacent Beach Room – perfect for families with older children. The design, however, still allows for privacy without losing the feeling of continuity.

Facilities

A stay in a Terrace Room, Beach Room or Beach Suite at Hotel Martinhal is inclusive of breakfast. Newspapers are delivered daily. All rooms are non-smoking, fully air-conditioned and benefit from a daily maid service with an additional evening turn down – and the hotel offers 24-hour room service. Minibars with wide range of beverages and snacks. Valuables and other personal belongings can be deposited in a safe. All rooms have telephone, satellite television and Bose ipod docking stations. The hotel also offers complimentary wireless internet access. Beach sojourns can be made wearing the complimentary robes and slippers left in each room and guests can take full advantage of the resort’s wide range of leisure and entertainment facilities. O Terraço, Hotel Martinhal’s restaurant is located on the first floor, where there is also a cocktail bar and lounge. Hotel guests are also reminded that valet service car parking is provided.

Taking the kids?

Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel offers a host of activities for children of all ages to take part in. Toddlers at Raposinhos can try their hand at face painting or join an outdoor treasure hunt. Simple arts and crafts using everyday materials works wonders for the imagination, and youngsters can spend hours making all sorts of colourful items to show proud parents. Activities like T-Shirt printing and cookery classes will spark the interest of older children. And the picnics held in the grounds will be a big surprise. Furthermore there is the Blue Room and a creatively designed children’s playground – featuring a “helicopter” as its centrepiece! Older kids can go to the Explorers and Adventure club to learn to (windsurf), go dolphin watching or learn a new skill at the junior lifeguard course. Martinhal also features a Football and Tennis academies where boys and girls can polish their skills or learn new techniques from our fully trained and experienced instructors.

Of course if they are over 8 years old they can join in on our surfing lessons!

Food and Drink

Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel offers some of the freshest, tastiest and most interesting food and wine in Portugal. Based on a philosophy of using genuine and authentic Portuguese produce of the highest quality and following time-honoured methods of preparation, the resort is one of the best places in the Algarve to appreciate delicious international and national cuisine.

Unpretentious but beautifully prepared Portuguese cuisine is served for dinner at O Terraço, Hotel Martinhal’s restaurant. O Terraço is also the venue where a full buffet breakfast is served, catering for all tastes. Children especially will love the kids’ corner with small tables, colouring pencils and games supervised by a member of the Kids Club, while parents can relax and enjoy their breakfast. The freshest fish and seafood can be savoured at As Dunas, a stylish beachfront eatery with the resort’s lively Beach Club next door. Children will love the trampoline and sand pit which are just in front of the terrace deck of the restaurant!

And Os Gambozinos, located on the Village Square, is the ideal venue for young and old, offering a tempting Italian a la carte dinner menu featuring hot and cold antipasti, fresh salads, delicious pasta dishes and a wide range of pizzas. Os Gambozinos also offers an extensive range of hot take-away dishes for dining in the sophisticated surroundings of your own house. All restaurants are family friendly, featuring a special children’s menu and a dedicated children’s play area.

For those looking to self-cater, Mercado offers a wide variety of take-away breakfast options with freshly baked bread, croissants and pastries, coffees, teas and natural orange juice. Here you will also find fresh fruit and vegetables, high quality deli items and a wide range of drinks. A full range of cold take-away dishes are also available through the day.
