Garden Bungalows - Chaaya Island Dhonveli

Introduction to Garden Bungalows - Chaaya Island Dhonveli

Our most basic (if you could call it that) accommodation at Pasta Point in the Maldives is in two-storey air-conditioned Garden Bungalows, with a king size bed up on the mezzanine level. On the ground level there's a spacious sitting room with an extra bed (or day bed), and a separate bathroom. Facilities include tea/coffee making, a stocked mini-bar, satellite-cable TV, telephone, closets, writing table and chairs. Additional beds can be provided for family accommodation.

Food and Drink

This surfing holiday in the Malidives is all inclusive, and the food is amazing. Help yourself to the Maldivian buffet restaurant or the International restaurant. If you fancy a cold drink after a hard day surfing then you can relax at one of the two water front bars.

Surfing at Garden Bungalows - Chaaya Island Dhonveli

All the surfing in the Maldives takes place over coral reefs. The best surf is on the eastern and southern edges of the atolls, where the reef has just the right orientation to swell and wind direction. In those perfect spots, the Maldives surf season produces consistent, clean, straight swell lines.

The surf season runs from mid February to November, when low pressure systems in the southern Indian Ocean generate consistent swells. The early part of the season has the most stable weather, with light, favourable winds. Swell consistency and size improves from February, with March, April and May having very clean conditions.

June to August have the most potential for big swells (the WQS contest is held in June every year), although tropical storms can be more common in these months.

September and October are also very consistent months for Pasta Point, with winds less variable and tropical storms becoming less frequent. November is still quite consistent for small to medium size waves and the weather is usually perfect.

Just back at work, I made a good holiday of it and had the full week off.   The surf lesson was brilliant. Not sure if your man told you but I fluked getting up on my first attempt. Loved it and can see why people get addicted to surfing.
