Introduction to Le Penon Apartment - Hossegor

Welcome to the heart of the European surfing. This stretch of coastline is one of the best surf beach breaks in the world. With miles upon miles of waves for all levels. In Hossegor we offer a totally hassle free, exclusive surfing holiday. We have two apartments which we book out on a private basis, ideally suiting couples coming on their own, or with another couple and families. You will not share your accommodation. This also reflects on our surf coaching ethos in Hossegor. We only teach your group in the lesson. This is the perfect tailored surf holiday for anyone wishing to visit us in the stunning region of Hossegor, in South West France.

When you are not surfing you can visit the local markets (Thursdays and Sundays) just in front of the apartment, cycle in the beautiful pine forests behind the apartment or lie on the endless beaches soaking up the sun just 50 metres away from your front door. For the more active why not try your hand at Seignosse's world renowned golf course, play tennis or go surfing again!

Otherwise relax in the sunshine of any one of the numerous cafes and restaurants of Seignosse and Hossegor. Shop till you drop in Hossegor's surf shops or the factory outlet stores. Then there's the thermal spas at Dax or the local cow games (football against cows - you have to see it to believe it!), concerts, clubs and bars. Lots to do for everyone whether you're with your friends, family or partner.

The apartments are 27m2 and 35m2 and can each sleep up to six people, but much more suited to four. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, living room with TV+DVD and sofa (double) bed, separate bedroom with double bed, mezzanine with double bed, bathroom; towels and sheets are provided. On the large balconies overlooking the gardens you'll find the surfboards, wetsuits and wax that you have requested waiting for you.

Food and Drink

You will find a welcome pack on arrival including local cheese, wine, pate and baguette. Other than that, as a self-catering option no food is supplied. We will of course suggest the best places to eat, and can even book the table if your French is not quite up to scratch.

Surfing at Le Penon Apartment - Hossegor

The southern part of Landes benefits from the deep submarine canyon that cuts through the continental shelf of the Bay of Biscay, pointing directly at the town of Hossegor. Known as the “Fosse de Capbreton” this swell-focusing trench (or ‘gouf’) is the reason that Hossegor has forged a reputation for being one of the best beachbreaks on the planet. Up to 3m, Hossegor’s beaches deliver exceptionally powerful, perfect peaks, often very close to shore and invariably hollow. When conditions conspire, spitting barrels can be spied far into the distance in either direction, spreading groups of surfers away from the main access points. On the downside, currents and longshore drift can be brutal, sandbars are constantly shifting, paddling-out channels are scarce at size, tidal ranges are large and wind protection is almost non-existent. However none of these factors have deterred the ever-growing crowds of riders and surf companies that call Hossegor home, helped by the fact that this corner of Europe’s Atlantic coast has the warmest water temps, allowing up to 4 months of rubberless surfing.

Our surf coaches in Hossegor are all qualified under the British Surfing Association scheme, and are fully qualified beach lifeguards. We teach the smallest groups in the region, and only teach on a private basis. This allows us to really develop your surfing skills, and maximise saftey for you.
