Introduction to Macumba Surf Lodge

The surf camp is a spacious guesthouse just a short walk from the surfing beach Macumba, a great location for your next surfing holiday in Brazil.

Sat next to a nature reserve with Coconut Palm trees, tropical plants, native birds and butterflies you can see monkeys pass by in the trees in front of the surf camp.

We are centered in the middle of seven different surfing beaches, making it easy access by foot, bike and car. We are located in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, on the outer skirts of the Rio City, 40 minutes down the coast from Ipanema. This area Macumba and Recreio is ranked the best and most consistent surf beaches in the Rio City, and in 2008 it hosted the 2008 Womens World Series and World Championships Tour. Meline Bartals (HAW) winner of the WCT, stayed with us during his surfing holiday to Brazil.

Close to the surf camp are the secluded beaches Prainha and Grumari which have amazing jungle mountain backdrop with no development, and on a hot weekend day, are the favorite hangout beaches for surfers, famous actors, and Brazilian hot bodies. Grumari is even the spot where the beach scene from the movie City of God was filmed. These are the safest, cleanest and most relaxed beaches.

Food and Drink

A healthy fresh Buffet breakfast is served here every morning. Rolls, Fruit Salad, Cake, Jam, ham and cheese. Start your day with the sweet smell of the best Brazilian coffee and mellow surf music flowing a rhythm for all to enjoy. At night why not head out and experience the Brazilian buzz, with BBQ's, street markets and bars you can't go wrong. Dress up for New Years and get stuck in to one of the biggest beach parties in the world.

Surfing at Macumba Surf Lodge

Lessons are in small groups for 2hrs with certified surfing coaches, fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Stand in your first lesson! The Surf Kombi Van and a local surf guide is ready everyday to transport our customers to the best surf spots depending on conditions. There are 30 different types of boards all in good quality and ready for your use and safe soft boards for the first timers.

The best spots being the outer skirt beaches south of Rio City - Praia da Macumba, Canto do Recreio, Prainha, Grumari and Reserva.
