Our accommodation in Bali

Exclusive to Errant we have tailor-made an advanced surf coaching and fitness holiday in the stunning region of Bali. From the 8th February - 18th February 2011 our team we be heading out to Bali. During this time you will have access to British Surfing association level 4 surf coach Chris Thomson and professional surf fitness trainer Lee Stanbury. We will also have a local surf guide on hand to provide video footage, and local inside knowledge to make sure we get the best surf on any given day. Each day we will wake to the sound of good tropical surf, Lee will then take us through an hour of light but highly beneficial workout that will prepare you for the days surfing ahead. Chris will be on hand throughout the trip to make sure you are getting the best out of your surfing, longboard or shortboard!
Bali is a surfer's dream collection of islands our base in Canggu is about 8 km north of the heaving tourist stronghold, Kuta, directly on the so-called eco-beach. First-class beach breaks are just waiting for you here, on your own doorstep. Perfect for beginners, intermediates and advanced surfers. It’s only a few minutes’ walk from the base to the perfect reef and beach breaks, Canggu and Perenenan. Surrounded by rice fields and palm groves, it’s so easy to slip into an eat-sleep-surf rhythm.
A big healthy breakfast is included each morning, with fresh juices, coffee and fruit. Each night we had off for a well deserved dinner (not included in price) eating out is good, and very cheap about 2 Euros a night! Prior to the trip you will receive a packed out goodie bag from our sponsors Science in Sport., Lee will also send out a pre-holiday training programme. Nothing full on, but enough to enable you to "peak" when in the good, tropical waves of Bali.
Our minimum level of surfer on this trip must be able to surf left and right on an un-broken wave. We will be surfing a lot of beach breaks, reef breaks and point breaks. Of course we will help you push your limits but it's not boot camp, so we will find good waves for you! Chris has coached surfers of all levels for the last 11 years, using in depth video coaching, in water sessions and theory coaching. The coaching is not "lesson" structured, but tailored to individuals more private tuition rather than a surf school holiday.
During your surfing holiday Lee will use techniques and educate you about the important elements of surf fitness. The same information European longboard champion Ben Skinner and WQS pro surfer Oli Adams receives from Lee. Including surf specific core strength. The muscles of the trunk and torso act to stabilize the spine, pelvis and shoulder girdle. From this solid, balanced base the limbs can be moved powerfully and under control. In fact before rapid movements of the extremities can take place, for example surfing movements!
Core strength training differs from many traditional weight training routines by working both the lower back and abdominals in unison. The same is true for the upper and lower body. All athletic movements incorporate the core in some way. Very few muscle groups are isolated. Instead the whole body works as a unit and core strength training endeavours to replicate this.
In addition the morning sessions lee will be on hand to run a cool down chill out highly beneficial flexibility session at the end of the days surfing this will aid to recovery allowing all surfers to stay mobile for the next day’s surfing session. Lee will also be available during each surf session for guidance on warming up before hitting the water thus aiding performance in the water. There will also be several sessions on the benefits of resistance training for surfing, Stretching is one of the most under-utilized techniques for improving athletic performance, preventing sports injury and properly rehabilitating sprain and strain injury. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that something as simple as stretching won’t be effective.
Staying upright on the board requires good balance and a solid base of strength in the lower body and core. Strong arms and legs are needed when paddling into the surf. Many people are unaware of the fact that there are different types of flexibility. These different types of flexibility are grouped according to the various types of activities involved in athletic training. The ones which involve motion are called dynamic and the ones which do not are called static.
You will walk away from this trip refreshed, ripping and with good knowledge on how to push your body and your surfing.
