Ground Swell Foundation

Introduction to Ground Swell

Set up and supported by Errant Surf holidays, Ground Swell is using surfing as the backbone of this non-profit making foundation. Ground Swell will provide education in many areas such as marketing, business management, entrepreneurship, video editing, beach lifeguarding, surf coaching and PR to name a few. Using short workshops and on-going projects with well placed work placements in the surf industry Ground Swell will set out to bridge the gap between young people and employment in or around the surfing and tourism industry.

Ground Swell will also make professional surf coaching accessible for young up and coming surfers, who may miss out on more mainstream opportunities due to lack of finance.

Mission Statement

Ground Swell is focused on inspiring, educating and coaching young people through the incredible art of surfing. We love what we do, have a passion for sharing it and want to inspire as many people as we possibly can through our work, so come and join us.

Our Charitable Objectives

Our objectives are to advance the education and physical, mental and spiritual development of children (or young persons under the age of 25) by providing or assisting in providing facilities for training in surfing and entrepreneurship of children and young persons who have need of such facilities by reason of poverty or social or economic circumstances (so they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society) and to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation of the general public with the object of improving their conditions of life.

Social Network

Ground Swell can be found online through our own Social Network which is administrated by founder Chris Thomson. This site allows young people aged 13 – 21 to engage in conversations, plan events and stay up to date with the latest news. They can also update their profile, upload surfing photos and surfing videos to promote themselves to possible employees or sponsors.

Latest Projects

Surf coaching and beach lifeguard awards with work placements in the UK. Pro coaching days, an opportunity for young surfers to have access to some of the best surf coaching in Europe. Led by professional surfers Mica Lester and Celine Gerhart. Surf Video Editing, an opportunity to film and edit a promotional video about themselves and learn a new skill to help develop their CV. Work placements with surf companies, we have close ties with media organisations Carve Magazine, A1 Surf Website and Magic Seaweed. We also have placements in surf schools, surf travel companies, surf shops and many more. Improvements to the website, making it a one stop young person’s website where they can come and get information about all kinds of cool opportunities out there.
